Christy Stevenson's photography career began as her fitness career-- simply as a hobby. She moved to Ridgefield, CT in 2014, and was so in awe of its woodsy beauty, of the wildlife, that she couldn't stop taking pictures on her iphone. Her husband wisely gave her a Nikon that first Christmas in CT, and her new hobby took off. She began simply, as a mother capturing moments of her children, then as a hiker, blogging about her hiking adventures, then as a wanderer, snapping shots of every scene she found lovely. She continues to read, research, and above all, practice and play with her camera, now in the beautiful area of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
Christy believes that every person has a beauty and a light that can be captured. As a former high school teacher, she had a gift of seeing the best in every student, of making them feel seen and valued. As a personal trainer and fitness instructor, she strives to help clients, especially women, see the best in themselves, to stop negative self-talk and an endless cycle of deprivation. It is only natural that as a photographer, she has the same goal and focus of showing others their true beauty, inner strength, and light.
Clients always end the photo session with immense gratitude, not that it's finally over, but because Christy is so positive. Instead of feeling awkward, clients feel beautiful. Instead of feeling that their children are little monsters, they feel proud and full of love and awe at their little ones. As a wife and mother, she understands how painful a family photo shoot can be, and she strives to make the shoot a positive experience and fond memory.
As a fitness professional, Christy is energetic enough for kids and dogs, strong and agile enough to hold awkward positions long enough to get unique angles and creative shots. Unlike most portrait photographers, she is also able to direct fitness photo shoots, understanding the different lighting required to create the right shadows to accentuate muscle definition, knowing which exercises/poses elicit a variety of fitness themes and moods. As a former fitness web video star, she understands what needs to happen in front of and behind the camera to make sure clients don't look like sweaty, drowned rats at the end of a shoot.
Christy loves when clients come with ideas, too-- you know your family, your kids, yourself better than anyone- who better to help direct the shoot? She makes sure to provide a variety of settings, poses, prop options to ensure you more than enough amazing options but also prefers the lifestyle/editorial style, which is more natural and less formally posed.
